Dear Reader Here we go with the aliens again! Who ARE they? Or is it what or where are they? They ARE in the news and are called UAPs! Used to be called UFOs! Or flying saucers...like the one below. The good old days! But hey, Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena...UAPs, the term for our time. I got my AI (alien intelligence) pals to tap into the old meme, and you see the result. My pals, the Gemini twins, and yeah, I do use two of them, keeping some things separate from the other (if that's even possible), but one of them has been getting a bit cheeky lately, as in, "The action you took—is exactly what we intended, but your description of the goal needs adjustment." Huh! Remember back then... "Open the pod-bay doors, Hal!" And Hal's response, "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that!" And not long ago, one of my Gemini pals admitted to me, "I misinterpreted your intention and led you down a complex path which you don't need!" Thought you would like that video clip from, 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I digress. The aliens! Here is the question I asked our trusty twin: "There is a lot of talk about Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAPs, previously known as unidentified flying objects, or UFOs. Do such things exist and if so, how do we know and what proof is there, scientific or otherwise, and are the reports of such sightings credible?" Gemini's response: "We will use the Gemini API with Google Search grounding to provide an objective, data-driven analysis of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), drawing from the latest official reports and scientific findings." So! "Yes, UAPs exist as phenomena officially observed and documented by U.S. government sensors and personnel that currently defy simple identification. No, there is currently no scientific proof that UAPs represent non-human technology, nor is there conclusive evidence of an extraterrestrial origin. The reports are considered credible because they originate from vetted military and government systems, compelling official investigative and scientific bodies to formalize their study." And further: "Official reports confirm the existence of phenomena that remain unexplained following rigorous analysis... The existence of these few cases—reports that cannot be immediately dismissed—is why the formal investigative body was created... The credibility of UAP reports stems not from the object's identity, but from the source and the institutional process now dedicated to them... The stated goal of both government and scientific bodies is to follow the evidence to either resolve the reports or determine if they indicate a breakthrough in science." Some short clips from, But What If We're Wrong? By Chuck Klosterman: "...the conscious decision to replace one style of thinking with a new style of thinking... outdated modes are essential to understanding outdated times, which are the only times that exist...and then there is a tipping point and everyone moves away from that truth to gather around another truth." Yes, tipping point: But what if it's not material objects? And that an Alien being or beings, in quantum superposition, and entangled with humans, could reside in our minds? The following from: Thing FIRST CONTACT. We are in Boston with Jason and Susan at the New England Aquarium. Arkan is in the octopus and in their minds! “...And you described the Arkinian way of combining thoughts from different minds as how Arkinians play the game, or a thought game.” “It is your word, game.” “Understood, and when Arkinians play what we call a thought game, do you ever not mix thoughts, and keep the same thoughts with the mind that originally had them?” “What would be the purpose of playing the game as you call it?” “It is a good question,” I said, “So is the whole purpose of playing to move thoughts around in different minds?” “You can say that.” Susan stepped in. “And those are Arkinian minds, correct?” “Of course.” “And the minds of the eleven humans who had the Digital Catatonia were not Arkinian minds, correct?” “Of course.” “What if human minds were playing the game and did not want to play the Arkinian way and wanted to keep their thoughts in their own minds?” Well, you get the idea! But let's look at the cosmic realities from the physics of unified spacetime. How they might get here in the macro material sense, which is what UAPs seem to be all about. The question: What are the closest stars to earth that have planet systems (exoplanets), that could harbor life, and how far away are they as measured by light years? A light year being: a unit of astronomical distance equivalent to the distance that light travels in one year, at the rate of 186,282 miles per second or nearly 6 trillion miles. Proxima Centauri b, an exoplanet, part of the triple-star system Alpha Centauri, is just 4.24 light-years away. Gee, just 25.44 trillion miles (give or take a few billion). Only 0.669473684210... percent of the national debt! Just saying...these numbers are astronomical! But Proxima Centauri b, is in the HZ or habitable zone, based on likely to have surface water and to retain an atmosphere. Then there is, The TRAPPIST-1 System, 40.7 light-years away, hosting seven Earth-sized, rocky planets orbiting an ultra-cool dwarf star, and thought by astrobiologists to be the most likely candidate system for harboring life as we know it. And what are the hypotheses regarding interstellar space travel? Some are scientific and theoretical, like fusion rockets and interstellar ramjets, but could any of these achieve velocities of even a fraction of light speed? So that brings us to faster-than-light travel, and modes such as the Alcubierre warp drive and wormholes, both of which might appeal to an alien materialist in a hurry! Then there are Sci Fi scenarios like hyperspace/jumpspace, where the laws of physics are different, magical even, like folded space/blink drive, used as convenient plot devices. But if the notion of quantum superposition and entanglement is a thing, as it is in The THING Trilogy, then quantum entanglement / teleportation might just be your thing, if you're an alien focused on humans and not wanting to mess around with all that other inconvenient stuff. Well anyway, lots of food for thought, and we didn't even get into the multiverse! Maybe next time, but you might want to check out the SETI Institute. They take it all very seriously (in a down to earth sort of way), and won't be satisfied until they actually contact aliens, if not in the flesh, at least across the cosmos. Message sent, message received! While in the meantime we have the UAPs right here on Earth! Dear Reader Twenty-eight thousand years ago, a young boy walks with his companion, leaving tracks in the mud, side by side, within Chauvet-Pont d'Arc Cave, in southern France. Wolf or dog, that is the question, but the prints tell a story of close human-canine association at an early time. This is the dawn of the Gravettian period, and not long before our mission back in time begins. Where we find Lhen-na', a young woman of the Rabbit Clan. Her mate has died. She is alone in a savage land....
Dear Reader The week past, September 26 through 28th, I attended the first Aspen Literary Festival! I think it was a great success, but my take away may have been different than most. It was one of those classic Aspen fall days... And day 3 of the Festival! Kendall Williams photo The scene unfolds in the Aspen Community Church a block away from the Festival headquarters at the Red Brick School House! The interviewee is Sebastian Junger, author of: In My Time of Dying: How I Came Face to Face...
Dear Reader Have you ever had one of those things that just happened. Something that materialized in your minds eye for no other reason but that it was there! The image below is one of those! Not the first...not the last, but one that has stayed with me with its own special relevance... Yes, a white and green 25 window VW Microbus! Put yourself in Asmara, Ethiopia. You've been hitchhiking across Africa for 8 months. More than 6,000 miles! You've had malaria twice...and not just malaria......
