Dear Reader What is so striking about her…is that despite her fractured and faded condition, her ageless womanhood comes through. What do her lips tell us? A satisfying thought or a cherished memory...belonging to her and surely hers alone? Her neatly coifed curls and red adorning hair band speak of her worth, and her place in the world of women in the late 6th century BC! And in the 4th century BC the natural sweetness of her expression, the slight turn of her head and again in the lips, slightly parted, a hint of her inner self! In a world where men and women lived separate lives in parallel worlds...perhaps the sculptor saw in his own daughters the spark of exuberance...so beautifully expressed below. We don't need all of her to know that she greets the moment with joy and hope. They had their arts too...in their own world...in their own way. The way of women! Inspired by Athena, patron of craft and weaving, known to them as Ergane, and honored by all. Athena Promachos, who led men into battle! Was she, that which joined those two parallel worlds? And passing the time together in leisure...though perhaps shown here in a household of the most fortunate... And in our own time... Modern Athenian women protesting for higher wages...along with their menfolk! And from Thing FIRST CONTACT: A Journey Through the Fabric of Time, book one of The THING Trilogy. Jason travels back in time to ancient Delphi... “Ah, Jason! It is a fine and worthy name for a traveler, your tale I am sure, worthy of the sagas. May you bring honor upon thy family of your namesake. As for us, we are the Priestesses of Athena, come in the ruby traces of dawn to welcome the new day and ask the blessings of the gods with our song.” “It is a beautiful song, sung with voices as sweet as honey itself and worthy of ones as comely as yourselves.” “You are kind and bring gladness to ones as humble as we, but do tell us now Jason traveler, where are you bound, and what do you seek?” I paused and thought for a moment. I didn’t want to mention Plato, at least not just yet. I said, “It is knowledge that I seek and the acquaintance of the philosophers who are known far and wide.” She responded. “You are indeed on the right path, but be wary, for these are troubled times when tyrants rule the earth and men of true faith are accounted worthless in the land. Go thee now to the hostel. There you will find fellow seekers who have come to the Oracle of Apollo to seek the knowledge of the Pythia, if they be so blessed.” We were still in the shadow of the ridge beyond but it was now quite light and she pointed out the path which led diagonally up the mountainside towards a complex of temples just catching the light. She said to go past them and that there I would find the pandokos, the hostel. She turned about and the others followed her, some looking back shyly at me. As I walked away their sweet singing started again, following me up the path. I stopped and listened. It ended with girlish laughter. I was charmed in a way I could not describe." Dear Reader Think about it… Humanity’s first contact with an alien intelligence would indeed be a major disruptor of worldwide proportions. Have we already made FIRST CONTACT with that alien intelligence? Major disruptor of worldwide proportions? Sure! Of where does it come and how would we know? Human intelligence deeply intertwined with our material bodies, with the physical world and our sensory experiences...could be called embodied cognition, driven by biological imperatives, emotions,...
